Cape Agulhas

My next stop on my Cape adventure was my first ever visit to Cape Agulhas. I have seldom visited Cape Town let alone explored this remote part of pour country. It was the experience of a lifetime! Here are some scenery shots that should convince you of the need to visit if you have not already!

As soon as I arrived in Cape Agulhas I spotted a substantial Tern colony on the rocks and immediately went to take a closer look. Here are some shots as I approached:

I cannot describe my joy as I spotted not one, but two Tern species that I had never seen before. Firstly, I finally spotted a little yellow spot on the end of a black bill. I have looked at thousands of black bills in the past with the hoping to spot the yellow ending of the Sandwich Tern:

And not to be outdone, another lifer - this time in Common Tern:

Some other birds around the rocks:

Here are some other sightings I had in the area:

My sense of excitement and anticipation was growing with every day as I was making my way towards Cape Town with the prospect, weather permitting, of a pelagic taking place. Would the wind in the Cape give me a break to enable the Zest II to make it's way out to sea south of Cape Point to enable me to finally spot some real sea birds???
