One of the least known nature reserves within the greater Durban area has to be the New Germany Nature Reserve just outside Pinetown. One of the highlights of the reserve is the walk in aviary that is well worth a visit with the younger members of the family for a great selection of Natal birds.
We spent some time in the aviary, then took a walk down the hill to the hide and the Kingfisher Dam before returning for another session in the aviary. My 5-year old had the time of his life in the aviary with the wide selection of birds that you could get up close to. They have done some great work in simulating different environments for the birds within the aviary - it is certainly not just a bird cage!!!

Now, if I could just see the Lemon and Namaqua Doves in the wild - I'd be able to add 2 lifers to my list!
