On a trip to visit family during the first week of July 2010 we made the most of every opportunity to bird the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal. Be sure to check out separate trip reports for Vernon Crookes NR and Oribi Gorge on this forus for a complete list of all our spots and highlights.
We stayed in a little holiday town called Southport and spent some time at the beach and birding along the railway line and the dunes. Here is a list of the birds that we saw in and around Southport: Grey Heron, Purple-crested Turaco, Bronze Mannikin, Swift Term (a lifer for me), Kelp Gull, Reed Cormorant, White-faced Duck, Village Weaver, Southern Masked Weaver, Fork-tailed Drongo, Pied Crow, Little Egret and African Darter.
