Windhoek

In February 2010 I had the privilege of travelling to Windhoek in Namibia to consult with leaders at our church there and I took ever spare minute of the weekend to do a little birding. My birding was confined to three locations: round the bed and breakfast where I was staying in the city, at a game lodge we visited for part of our meetings and at the Avis Dam just outside of the city. Looking at the list of birds that I saw now they are not special, but at the time, given that I was new to birding, they were great sights and 20 were lifers. Plus it was the first time that I have EVER seen a Sunbird - and I saw Amethyst, Marico and Scarlet-chested Sunbirds! Here is a section of my pics from the trip:

Here is the full list of birds that I saw on the weekend: Southern Red Bishop; African Red-eyed Bulbul; Cinnamon-breasted Bunting; Black-throated Canary; Cape Glossy Starling; Familiar Chat; Southern Masked Weaver; Rock Dove; Fork-tailed Drongo; Red-headed Finch; Scaly-feathered Finch; Helmeted Guineafowl; Lourie; Marabou Stork; White-backed Mousebird; European Roller; Purple Roller; Crimson-breasted Shrike; Great Sparrow; Amethyst Sunbird; Marico Sunbird; Scarlet-chested Sunbird; Rock Martin; Groundscraper Thrush; Chestnut-vented Tit-Babbler; Cape Wagtail; Black-chested Prinia; Black-faced Waxbill; Blue Waxbill; Lesser Masked Weaver; Southern Masked Weaver; White-browed Sparrow-Weaver; Pin-tailed Whydah and Shaft-tailed Whydah.
